It has communal dining and kitchens. It’s being built just feet away from the precious tree-lined river frontage on the Kelvin.

If built, this block will ruin one of the city’s favourite green riverside views (the one from Kelvin Bridge looking East), and change daily life for hundreds of people in what is now a quiet residential area. The structure, which is completely out of character with its surroundings, will:

Overshadow nearby homes.
Compromise the peaceful setting of the riverbank.
Cause major noise pollution.
Invade people’s privacy.

To make matters worse, the building itself will be a ‘budget’ construction – specifically designed to meet the tight financial demands of Glasgow University’s business plan for student accommodation. A campaign group of local residents has formed an organisation called LANSDOWNE WATCH to fight this appalling proposal – and, in the longer term, to act as a forum for important events affecting all residents of Lansdowne and the surrounding area.

LANSDOWNE WATCH

Come along and help clean the River kelvin Banks within Kelvingrove Park. Wear stong foot wear and warm clothing.

Litter Grabbers, yellow bibs, waterproof gloves, safety instructions and lots of bin bags will be provided.
If you have a whistle or pocket alarm please bring along.

Soup, rolls, coffee, tea etc will be provided from 12.30pm at the Ha’ Penny Bridge House, 135 Kelvin Drive, ( R Kelvin Walkway) for a donation of £2.50

All You Have to Do is turn Up at Ha’penny Bridge House on Friday 28 January at 10.30am for 2 Hour Work Shop on Sustainable Communities

November Clean Up / AGM

Saturday 6 November

Ha’penny Bridge House at 10.30am and 2.00pm

Get fit, get a warm glow and help improve the quality of our river for wildlife and for everyone!

Wear old clothes and strong shoes or wellies. We will provide gloves and grabbers

The AGM will be at the Ha’penny Bridge House Saturday 6 Nov 2010 at 12.30pm followed by lunch at 1.30pm

Every autumn FORK members are entitled as part of their membership to head out with our associates Wild by Nature on a fantastic adventure experience exploring the remote volcanic Islands of Loch Lomond on what is termed as a Canoe safari.

The trip is an all inclusive day where members are picked up in an executive person carrier and issued with all related equipment. Your qualified canoe guide will train and accompany you on the safari and ensure the pace and content suits your needs. Whilst paddling these primeval waters there are real chances of spotting fallow deer, Osprey , the elusive Scottish red necked wallaby and much more.

As part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful National Spring Clean, there will be a clean up every Saturday in April.

The launch Event will be at Ha’penny Bridge House on Saturday 3rd at 10.30.

Clean Glasgow,  Local Community Police, Fire Brigade, Politicians, the Press, members of Partick Football Club and Wild by Nature will be present.

The University of Glasgow is organising its fifth sponsored dog walk on Saturday 8 May taking place at Garscube Estate, Bearsden. Participants can choose between a 5k or 10k walk along the banks of the River Kelvin, following a safe and stewarded route. It’s a fun, family day out and you don’t even need a dog to take part!

To date over £19,000 has been raised through our Doggy Dawdle’s with all funds being directed towards the new Small Animal Hospital.

After more than 10 years in the planning the University of Glasgow’s new Small Animal Hospital is now open thanks to the generosity of our supporters. The patients we treat have always received a high standard of care, but with our new hospital the care and treatment will now be provided in the best possible surroundings.
